| A total of 3 locos built between 1941 (20001) and 1948 (20003), used primarily on the Central and Eastern Divisions of the Southern Region. Fitted for 3rd Rail and Overhead Wire current collection (in yards), all withdrawn and cut up by 1969. |

| Mainstay power of the Manchester - Sheffield route until its closure in 1981, the first loco (26000) built by Doncaster Works in 1941, but the other 57 were built at British Railways Gorton Works from 1950 to 1952. 76020 preserved at the NRM in York. |

| The first 25kV ac Electric Class to be introduced with E3001 delivered to stock 20/11/59. E3001 - E3023 became 81001 - 81020, E3002, 9 & 19 were withdrawn before renumbering. E3301 became 81021 & E3302 81022. All withdrawn by the early 1990's but 81002 preserved. |
